Pic related shows why. The top 80% of women will only be going for the top 20% of guys. And with a #/10 rating, girls will always go 2 points higher while guys will typically go +/- 2 points. So a 6/10 girl on Tinder will only be swiping on 8/10+ guys, and a 6/10 guy will be going for anything between 4/10-8/10 girls.
So if you aren't a 9/10 guy, you are only gonna get fat chicks with online dating unless you got really strong game. If you try and meet girls IRL, you at least have the chance to fake confidence and show them there's something more than looks.
Also OKCupid is one of the few free apps that isn't just for hookups like Tinder, but I found that lots of girls on there aren't very serious about it. Like many of them just got out of a bad breakup or have somebody else they're trying to get and they're only on the app for an ego boost because they want to see what type of guys will message then.
And if you do the app, you gotta talk to a whole lot of girls because each one of those girls is gonna have a dozen guys hitting on her and you gotta hope you stand out above them.
