Central IL here. Been playing around with the idea of aggressively changing my diet to include wild caught fish. But are there any safety concerns?
IDNR has recommendation for some areas -- many fish are suggested 1 meal per week -- but that kind of makes it hard to catch a batch of fish and eat regularly. Are mercury and PCBs a real concern? I was considering taking some blood tests before/after wild fishing to see if my mercury level changes. Has anyone else taken a similar test?
I was considering focusing on panfish because small, non-predatory fish are usually the lowest for toxins.
Any suggestions for someone who is planning to heavily eat wild caught fish?
