What advice or stories can I get here about solo trekking in tropical areas
I've fucked around the backwoods Hawaii a fair bit but the only complications there are cryptosporidium and belligerent pigs, both of which are easy to deal with. What are some other difficulties to expect?
I know you guys have chimp-outs any time someone has an original idea, but I'm thinking about tropical Africa, Malabo in particular because there are no large mammals. Aside from obvious health considerations, would it really be any more dangerous than Hawaii?
I've had every recommended vaccine for the region, I don't half-ass my water treatment, I sleep with a net and don't skip malaria meds. That cuts possibility of illness down to an acceptable level.
I worked in Lagos for 18 months so Africa is neither intimidating nor exotic to me and I'm not afraid of the ooga boogas. I like it there and the nature is pretty in the places which haven't been deforested, overpopulated, and polluted in that order. I'm not doing this for RealTraveller™ points, I'm genuinely excited to go.
