Daily reminder that this is an "outdoors" board, not a "SHTF bushcrafting survivalist" board.
Not everyone is permanently in a survival situation. I could survive without a knife during most of my outdoor activites. That includes spending a month innawoods and trekking over 4000 meters. Well, I'll be honest, I might have problems cutting slices off my dry sausages without a knife, that's really the only thing that worries me.
I myself use two knives, yet I'm really pushing it. I have a cheap Mora or a folder that is my actual knife, and I have one that I keep razor sharp and clean, all stainless steel so I can sterilize it, and reserved for emergencies.
It's only my reptilian brain keeps telling me "hey, WHAT IF??????" if I don't keep an extra knife, but I actually don't really need it.
You want a useful knife tip? Add a lanyard to your knife, it will decrease your changes of losing it by 80%. You can also add a much longer one, about 1.5 meter long, that you permanently tie to your belt. You knife would have no reason to go further than that from you.
It's better to avoid losing your knife than carrying several.
