They're small enough to fit into a jacket pocket.
They're cheap. I got a really nice example for $5.
They work every time.
And they take really decent pictures.
It's not the fanciest, or the most luxurious camera out there, but it does a more than adequate job. Unless you were planning to step up to a larger format, this, and a pocket full of Ektar 100 is what I would take on a backpacking trip.
