these arent all that rare where im at but worth sharing. this is the nutria rat (we say nu-tra rat). they were brought to Louisiana for the fur trade and were eventually released. they are built like a beaver but have thin tails like a rat. they are extremely invasive. Louisiana actually has a bounty on them (i believe its $5 per animal). they built dens much like beaver, but they often dont dam up the water. i cannot express enough how much i hate these guys.
