Do you want a self-setter? Do you want it to use a pole that you can take off and use for other things?
The simple ones are a plastic spool pressed into an axle, and the axle in a tube with a wire eye loop attached to the tube. The axle has a cross bar on the other end with notches for the flag pole, so that when a fish takes the bait, the spool spins the crosshead and releases the flag. Use a couple screws for tension adjustment to allow the use of large live bait and give the axle tube a pivot so you can fold it up and tada! You've made something that's $9.99 at the bait shop!
