Uses: Native Americans used root for burns;flowers tea for fevers, snakebites; crushed flowers were chewed for sore throats. Contain quercetin, a compound reportedly useful in treating hemorrhagic nephritis. Seeds eaten as survival food. Leaf extracts are diuretic and mildly antispasmodic. Like European goldenrod, Solidago virgaurea, the leaves of canada goldenrod are used in european phytomedicine as a diuretic in treatment of inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract. Also used in irrigation therapy to both prevent and treat urinary and kidney gravel. Contains various bioactive flavonoids; various diterpenes responsible for characteristic fragrance. Of interests in research for antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains.
