Read the sticky. There is a link to a free download of the US Army Wilderness Survival Handbook. This is, predictably, a great starting point.
>>150749This nigga right here. I own a copy of The SAS Survival Guide. Tons of useful information inside.
>>150746I would STRONGLY recommend NOT attempting to "learn as you go" with wilderness survival. That WILL get you killed. Go into your backyard, practice building shelters and starting fires in ALL weather conditions.
Do you fish? If not, Start. Do you hunt/trap? If not, Start. Can you Identify local plant edibles? If not, go into your local bookstore and buy a book on local plants and read it. Then read it again. Memorize all the local edible plants. Can you tie all of the knots in pic related? Do you know when/where you would use these knots? If not, find some rope, and get to work, and do a quick google search of the names of these knots to find their uses/applications. Do you know how to find water in the wild? If not, learn. Do you know First Aid? if not, you need to.
When you are in a survival situation, the best tools you can have are a sharp knife and a sharper mind. Learn everything you can about survival BEFORE putting your skills to the test.
