Make the pens 6 feet+ so you don't have to crouch when you're inside.
Run a hose or hardline pvc to the inside so you don't have to go in and out and back in to fill waterers. I have automatic bowls used for dogs/horses.
Trench the perimeter and pour concrete (its cheap). You only need a few inches wide and 6"-8" deep. Hardware cloth on the bottom, 1" chicken wire on the sides, 2" chicken wire on top.
Have nesting boxes at the back of roost so you have access from the outside. Put lids on top so gravity closes them, don't rely on latches and swing out doors (although they're easier to clean).
Paint all wood.
Use pressure treated lumber.
Provide shade. I use hardware cloth underneath roost boxes to maximize space.
Build a covered area of some type for feeders so they don't get rained on.
Add roost bars inside and outside. Chickens like to jump up on stuff.
