The head and point are perfect for what a hatchet is meant to be used for (hacking limbs, splitting small logs, etc). It also does not tend to get stuck like most of the "modern" hatchets that have a very thin head. Also, the wood handle is nice because it absorbs some of the impact. The all metal hatchets transfer all of that energy into your wrist, which is jarring.
