>>1165964I did my first proper Scottish winter mountaineering last month. Pic related, was a great day out on Stob Ghabhar. Solo until I met a couple of others going down. Have you got any winter experience elsewhere?
>best month for weatherProbably April-May for most reliable weather but really conditions vary massively even from one day to the next. We had phenomenal conditions in November (several feet of snow, clear skies and low winds) but it could have easily been no snow, 90mph winds and rain. The best way to do it is base yourself in Scotland then when the forecast is good (always use MWIS) go for a day-trip or an overnight. If you plan more than a week in advance it’s 100% luck.
>best mountain ranges for solo tripsThere’s lots around Glencoe which is very feasible for someone with a little experience and the right gear (crampons, ice axe, gps and emergency gear advisable). However there are easier walks in the Trossachs and the Arrochars like Ben Lomond and Ben Arthur.
