Torch: Multiple small LEDs are never better. One powerful LED with a lens to give it good flood is better. If you need a lower setting then get something with settings. Just to be clear, we should somehow tell the noobs that pic related is shit, you want a single/a few cree LED. You can get good lights on ebay for $3-5 for stick ones and $10 for headlamps.
Shoes: If you are following a trail, yes, shoes are fine. But in serious terrain you DO want boots.
Fleece: Doesn't have to be fleece and isn't always needed in the summer.
Hardshell: is not a must.
Cup: is not a must. You write this but there's no need to have it on the list IMO.
Clothes: are a must, but people probably have them already. I don't think the need to be on this list, it makes it seem like they have to buy special ones.
There's no bug protection here, if you just follow this you will wake up in mosquito bites(in some areas). I think shelter should have more options or use another default. A tent is easier for "noobs" and have bug protection.
