also if you want a real adventure there's some currently used and some abandoned trails in the horseshoe run area that you could make a loop of
check out the topo map, purchase yourself a monongahela forest hiking guide (I like the older editions to see the now-abandoned trails) and there's tons of stuff beyond dolly sods.
north carolina also has significantly more people using their backcountry areas than WV does I would imagine...
