My mom is a veterinarian in NW Montana, and treats the black and grizzly bears that are housed in a refuge just outside of Glacier Park. All of the bears were born in captivity in zoos and such and as a result can never be released, so this guy bought a bunch of property, high-security fenced it off, and put a little gravel road through it so tourists can drive through and see the bears up close ("your car is your cage" is the motto of the place) in a controlled environment before they go innawoods and do something stupid for a nice photo. The bears have a reasonable amount of room to roam around, a pond stocked with fishies, nice shelter, and so on. Anyway, she neutered them as cubs, gives them an annual checkup, signs the paperwork testifying that they're well-cared for, etc. I went with her a few times many years ago, pic is 10 years old of me at this place. As they've gotten more mature, I think her contact has become more limited out of safety concerns, but they're still very well-behaved in general around the handlers. One year she went to check on them and one of the males started sniffing her really aggressively and tried to climb up on her when her back was turned. Turns out she was on her period, and he was all about that. The owner recommended that she leave immediately, it was probably a good call.
