For me for example, I regularly go fishing, I somewhat regularly go foraging, I love gardening and growing edible plants. Yet I have maybe slept 3 times in the wild, all the other times were either on camping sites or private property (on tents, on mats, or on air matresses). I have gone camping somewhat regularly, but usually on campsites, which just isn't the same. By the definitions of a lot of people on /out/ that means I don't qualify. Obviously as a result I don't really know shit about most gear and thus I shut the fuck up about it. All I know about is foraging and fishing gear, as well as knives.
Hoping to fix the "not sleeping in the wild" either this year or next year though, I'll have to stealth camp, but I am looking forward to it.
