Uses: Traditionally, powered nut (minute does) used for spasmodic cough, asthma (with tight chest), intestinal irritations. Externally, tea or ointment used for rheumatism and hemorrhoids. The delaware carried a “buckeye” (seed) in pocket to ward off rheumatism. Native Marencas put the pulverized nuts in streams to stupify fish, which floated to the surface for easy harvest. Contains various toxic saponins.
