For my first hunting gun, I'm torn between either a Mossberg & Sons Patriot .308 Winchester and an American Ruger .308 Winchester. The Mossberg will come with a Vortex Crossfire ll 3-9x40 scope, for my Ruger I'd have to buy one seperately. Is it okay to get a gun with a scope pre-attached, or should I just get the Ruger and put a scope on it? For hunting in Northern California I was told I don't need too much scope, and so I was looking in the $189 price range for one and got good feedback on that. They end up being nearly the same price if I were to put a $189 scope on the Ruger.
