I sort of have a story from the other side, being the spooker rather than the spookee.

>first night, start in small town, hike up semi-popular trail up to lake in mountains

>fuck that, I wanna camp near a water source so I can stay topped off for the first 2 days
>get to lake, go to far side, find spot to hang hammock
>about 100 feet away from shore, through trees, well hidden
>set everything up under camouflage tarp
>night falls, no more hikers or fishers at lake
>completely hidden in the darkness under camouflage tarp
>hear a loud group hiking up to shore near me, sounds like annoying dudebros
>oh well, they can't see me, hopefully they'll stay quiet and I'll get some sleep
>get woken up around midnight by extremely loud "EEEE! EEEEE!" coming from a nearby tree every 10 seconds
>FUCKING BIRD SHUT UP I NEED TO SLEEP
>dudebros make "whoop!" noises at the bird every time it screeches, laughing loudly
>guess they're nightfishing and drinking beers
>try and get comfortable, rustling tarp in the process
>see flashlights snap up towards me at the noise
>they can't see anything (still under camo tarp), but I can tell they're getting creeped out
>hear some nervous whispers, go back to sleep
>eventually bird starts again
>find large branch, toss it out from under tent at the tree to try and scare it away
>crashes loudly through the brush
>dudebros getting freaked out
>some start walking around trying to find the source of the spoopy noises
>please don't fucking find me, I just want to sleep, this is gonna be awkward
>they've stopped laughing and are snapping their flashlights up at every noises
>can hear them debating about what to do, who should go check it out, etc.
>bird still won't shut the fuck up
>fuck it, it's go time
