Used a TNF Cat's Meow for a couple years until a friend lost it, used the military system in the OP for seven years until it got destroyed by a sewage flood into a basement.
I'm thinking about, for a replacement setup:
- the bivy from the military system, indestructible and I fuck with it
- a Wiggy's bag. I'm used to a bulky bag and value the no-matter-what-the-fuck-you'll-be-fine factor of the durable synthetic insulated military bags for winter camping (most of the camping I do), and I understand that lots of US military people get these as a upgrade, so I figure I will too. Plus, they're cheap.
- On the total opposite end, one of the 40 degree Sea to Summit Spark ultralight down bags. Idgaf about weight really, but I'm intrigued by a bag I can stuff in a daypack and overnight with almost as an afterthought in reasonable weather. I figure I'll usually run it inside the bivy as a replacement for the green bag and to give it a durability and warmth boost, and this'll get me down into the 30s.
Does this make sense or is it shoe-on-head?
Also, anyone with a Wiggy's 20 or 0 bag know how small a compression sack they can fit in?
