>>2271991Learning from others. I had zero experience and literally just walked into it. I was visiting my mum for christmas in a tiny town near Omeo and decided I wanted to move out there. Got talking to some locals at the pub about looking for work, and this guy told me about that guy who needed a farmhand. I couldn't even drive a manual car at that point or ever seen a cow up close.
After the first three years of on-the-job learning I can comfortably look after beef cattle on my own if I had the land. There isn't any course I can recommend, just learning from other farmers who are more than happy to teach. Like really happy to teach. I texted the guy one night and he called me back straight away and invited me to lunch with his family the next day, and that afternoon he was showing me how to milk in the dairy. I got covered in shit and piss but it was a heap of fun and I just stayed
