Haha, I saw this thread and was expecting the replies to be "NOT THIS THREAD AGAIN" and "we need a sticky" and "We have this thread like three times a week! Fuck"
I was confused when there were three legitimate responses, then I realized why. "I'm a grill". You guys are fucking hilarious. She even says:
>(If this is an annoying question or a faux pas, please forgive me and ignore this question.)
Which it is. But, whatever, think with your imaginary internet dicks.
As for on topic, because you are female and have a disability you should ease into camping and hiking, and do so in popular areas with lots of people, and I highly recommend doing it with others while you learn if you're going to go into more remote areas or on longer trips. Rape is a very legitimate concern, unfortunately, whether you or anyone else wants to believe it or not. Take it from someone who used to hitchhike around the country and talked to hundreds of traveling homeless kids. Girls travel with a guy or get raped, it's just the reality of being remote/vulnerable, female and alone. Remote female individual camping is the only /out/ related thing I would actually recommend bringing a gun for, and not being scared to use it. People suck.
Other than other people, you have nothing to worry about as long as you ease into camping and hiking and learn what to do and what not to do. I feel sorry for you that you want to camp by yourself as a female, that's a risky thing to do, at least if you were to camp the way I do. I'd be murdered and raped by now if I was a woman, with some of the situations I've been in while camping in Montana and New Mexico. You should stick to populated areas where someone can hear you if you're in trouble, unless you are willing to camp with a male or are willing to kill 1-2 people in defense of yourself. Perv hicks on ATVs are gonna perv hick on an ATV.
