I will share with you my hard tack recipe. I take it on every trip. A friend of mine took some left over hard tack on a further trip weeks later and it was fine.
200g white flour, can be substituted for gluten free flour (rice flour, maize flour and corn flour ASDA own brand is best)
200g oats
100g potato flour (smash/instant mash)
400ml water
100ml oil
half a tea spoon of salt
Mix to medium firmness dough, may not require all the water. Roll to approx half an inch thick. Divide into 6 pieces and each piece will be approx 300 calories.
Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, on 230C or Gas mark 8, untill first signs of browning on top. Then put pieces on rack to dry and cool.
Once dry and cool bake for a further 15 to 20 minutes or until pieces are hard and snap easily.
After the first bake they are soft enough to eat but benefit from a little toasting and will only last a week.
