I gave it 3 shots, one to the head, one to the neck, and another to the head. Hit it so damn hard the third time it knocked the antlers off and blew out the back of the skull. Ending the poor things misery was my one concern at the time, and I got that much right.
It had been trying to bury itself and couldn't even move with a huge dog barking at it from ten feet away for over an hour.
