I also don't want to give the impression that I think people shouldn't carry while hiking. I think that that's acceptable if you know what you're doing, and a lot of people on /out/ don't realize that posters here come from vastly different parts of the world, some places it's retarded to go out without a firearm. Unfortunately for me I live in a place where it's retarded and illegal to go out with one. So I get stuck with bear spray.
I'm ok with that though, because I can admit that I'm not a great shot, and the weight difference also matters to me. It might not matter to other people though.
