Sorry for not delivering
Had a busy week, and although I ran into the dude yesterday, we were pretty busy and I didn't ask further about his Appalachian trail story.
I will try to get the exact location of this ranger station and maybe post about it here or /x/ one day, but judging off of where he pointed on the map in West Virginia, as well as the population density map of the area, the lack of established roads, and the close vicinity to the Appalachian trail, I would guess that it's located somewhere in the Jefferson National Forrest or near Pipestem. Perhaps the most helpful info, but it's the best I can do for now.
