Bear spray isn't really necessary for NC since you haven't got brown bears over there, but if it makes you feel better then what the fuck, go ahead. As far as boots and random ass psychos go, I'm not the guy to ask, as I'm still inexperienced myself in /out/ terms (I'm from /k/, not here originally). As to the latter, however, the world is not *generally* as dangerous as many seem to think. Stay strapped and willing to do what you must, keep your fucking wits about you, and you'll generally muddle through all right.
