As for the wood, this anon piqued my interest about hugelkultur (
>>340408) and after looking into it, I decided to use it for a season with my raised bed. It's supposed to help long-term with soil nutrition and water retention, If it doesn't work out, I'll dig the wood out in a year and till the soil while I'm at it. I'll give you guys updates on how it's going until then.
