What's being an /out/doorsman like in America?
Reading threads here on /out/, it seems to be diametrically different from where I live. From what I understand you're pretty much only allowed to camp in designated camping areas, and not set foot on private property no matter how far from civilization that might be. Not only this, but in your only supposedly free zones, the national parks, you have to file permits to be allowed access to some areas.
I can't imagine this being any fun whatsoever.
Aren't these designated areas bound to have other people in them at any one time? To me, that alone defeats the purpose of going /out/. The second you see a human-made trail or junk left behind, you sort of instantly leave your state of tranquility and zone back to reality.
As for the laws, do a lot of people actually obey them, or do you just camp wherever anyway? The chances of being caught must be miniscule.
