> What kind of tarps exist?
To my knowledge only four types of tarp exist:
1) regular, rectangular tarps, the most popular the 9 by 9.
2) triangular tarps, those are mostly used for shade, nothing more.
3) tarptents are formed so that they mimic a tentlike appearance.
4) poncho tarps are basically ponchos that work as a tarp too. They usually are 5 by 7 foot.
> I only know the home depot kind. What are common materials and their pros and cons?
The home depot kind usually is some kind of polyester, it's ok, but will be heavy and loud, however, it's really cheap.
Then there are PU coated tarps, those aren't loud, but heavy and cost a bit more, this would be the DD tarp.
There are silicone coated nylon tarps, those are very light, lownoise but a bit pricey. This would be the DD ight tarp.
Then there are ultralight tarps out of cuben fiber. The attachement points are usually glued instead of sewn, they are extremely lightweight, but loud and usually only in a whitish/greyish color. They cost a lot.
> What else do i want to look for in a tarp?
You cannot have enough attachement points. And they should be well stitched on. There also should be attachement points in the middle of the tarp.
> Which size should i pick for one to two persons?
9 by 9 or 12 by 9 i guess.
