>>2475826>The Salomon Quests seem to be what everyone says and that’s what I was just going to do except for hearing they aren’t great for colder / wet conditions and to go leather for that.They are correct, however jumping right into winter wet weather capable boots like a Meindl Comfort Fit Extreme or a Crispy boot might be too much if you are just starting out. You'll hate it and not get used to it unless you have a drill sargent helping you along.
I have worn Salomon Quest 4D with trekking gaiters in pic rel crossing 5 mile knee-deep snowfields with water and swamp underneath with temperatures around freezing for 10 days sleeping in a tent and I was ok even though I had somewhat wet feet for about 5 of the 10 days. The Salomon is also warm enough for winter walks due to the gore tex and thick lining. I took the Quest 4D for this trip because I wanted to hike fast and make 20-25miles each day.
