>>1289764Hey guys my main rod I keep in my car is a zebco 5 foot ultralight rod. I love it because it breaks in half and is easy to carry around. I also have a really nice glass ul rod, but I never use it because although being around 5 foot also, something I like when fishing in really overgrown shorelines, it doesnt break in half.
My main zebco, despite being a shite brand and a rod I found underneath a bridge, the guides are made of steel, not the smooth composite or graphite or whatever most guided contact line with. This isn't a problem for dinks and perch and bluegill, and even the occasional little pike pic related, but I caught a bunch of really big bass that get tangled up in the weeds and it's like pulling in a 40 inch pike. I really feel the line rubbing against that metal and I know it's not good for the line.
So my options are either replace the guides on my zebco, cut my glass rod in half somehow, or buy a third rod that essentially does the same thing.
Tl;dr : Should I replace the steel guides on my main rod, cut a solid rod inhalf, or buy a new rod.
