Im trying to design a small backyard passive solar greenhouse and trying to figure out should i insulate the whole footprint of the greenhouse or not. I live in a very cold area with long and harsh winters with little to no sunlight and it seems like all these "climate batteries" and GAHT systems i keep seeing around this subject would not work very well. The ground is going to freeze solid no matter what i do without active heating systems. Atleast with proper insulation the frost is not going to bend and fuck up any structures. Also the greenhouse should warm up sooner during the spring when there is less ground to suck up all the heat. Im planning to do the kneewalls and floor from bricks and they should add enough thermal mass with few water tanks. The site of the greenhouse is near fence so it is not even possible to grow anything low in the ground so it would be only for thermal mass. What do you guys think?
