The /out/ist speaks truth.
No surer way to become a couch potato than be forced to hump ass up and down hills, through swamps, all day, carrying gear in rain, snow, and humid heat. That shit wears a man out.
After 25 years in environmental consulting, I can chose field work days around the weather about 80% of the time. The other 20 % I curse underneath my breath, take a couple doses of nsaid and grab the boots. Mosquitos and impenetrable swamps in humid summertime are _just_a_little_ worse than rain and wind a few degrees above freezing.
One good thing, you learn to recognize hazards like avalanches, bottomless muck, and poisonous plants as a matter of daily survival.
Go to work for the cash and flexible schedule. Go out for fun.
