The cuts (in the pic) are not accurate, it looks as if they were made with an axe. They also are unnecessarily deep. The biggest problem with the cut is that it's way too narrow. If you just keep batoning the knive in the bottom of the cut the blade has nowhere to go. Many people do this with axes, but in that case they're just wasting their energy, the axe doesn't break.
Lastly, a blade that thick shouldn't break even in the hands of an idiot, and how is it even possible to create any stress to the area where the blade actually broke?
