Come to Emmet or Charlevoix counties, all the fudgies are leaving. I've been spending 3 or 4 nights a week out in the Gaylord State forest watching the leaves change.
The /out/ life is pretty unmatched. Kayaking, downhill or cross country skiing, snowshoeing, boating, swimming, hiking, camping... etc. The black flies and mosquitoes are pretty intense especially near the Dark Sky Park of Mackinaw but what's a little DEET and Permefrin between friends. As for the weather we can see anywhere between 130 and 200" of snow. Last year snow began on Halloween and ended mid-April. While my nights last week in the woods were in the lower 30s this week it was a rather balmy upper 60s. That kind of swing seems like it was normal is the South too though.
