I lied on my packing list. I brought my new translation of the Volsungersaga rather than the Edda.
Sleeping gear was arranged as follows: tarp, thin foam mat, red deer, reindeer on the ground. I then used the sheepskin as a pillow, and the blanket on top. Two additional tarps then formed a roof and wall. Picrel shows the shelter before raising the roof and attaching the wall. The campsite was angled, making the whole affair frustrating and sleep was interrupted due to the sliding, but the kit performed well. The blanket is not really long enough for me, but it's hard to find grown Scandi-sized wool blankets. I was very warm until the last few hours until dawn, where the temp actually dropped to a bit over 10C. The chill could have been prevented by closing the shelter earlier, rather than letting it ventilate for as long as I did (it was too warm to keep closed during the first half of the night), by adding leaves and shit under the shelter, by using the fourth tarp as a blanket and by bringing a jacket. No biggie. I wore wool pants and a thin and a thicker cotton shirt, unknown composition socks, a merino gaiter and beanie, and put on thick wool socks at some point during the night.
