When it comes to food and water consider a few things.
A metal bottle that DOESNT have a top attached to it(by chain for example) will let you boil all your water at once and not take up other cooking things like your pot.
Your kit should contain, in some way, a pot that either has a flat bottom for placing in or a way to suspend it over the fire. You can add a small pan of some kind if pan searing food in a pot isn't your cup of tea.
Also I'd hope aluminum is ok to cook with, because I just found my old aluminum Boyscout mess kit and I want to use it again.
