While going through stuff in the kitchen earlier this day, I noticed one of the garlic "semi-bulbs" (I guess it's in the year after planting, and will produce bigger bulbs that fall into cloves again next year if re-planted) started sprouting despite dark storage.
So before I toss it away - I know now is probably a very unfortunate time of the year, but can I put it into a pot and have it sit on the window at room temp (~20°C), hoping it'll root and shoot further?
If so, should I then plant it into the now cool garden (outside temps are mostly around 5°C during winter months here, but it may freeze occasionally, and with bad luck, i.e. once per decade, down to below -15 shortly), or better wait until around March/April? How frost-hardy are they? (Onions at least are fully hardy here)
