There is literally nothing a machete or axe can do out in the wild that a katana cannot. A katana is not only the weapon of choice for the worlds deadliest warriors, it is also the weapon of choice for the worlds greatest explorers, hunters, navigators, and hikers. Let us examine the various uses for a blade outside and see how the katana is inevitably superior
>Cutting through foliage and leafs
A Katana is the sharpest sword on earth. It can cut through each of the metals on the periodic table, then cut the tables legs off. So clearly, it can cut through any number of leaves and branches that block your way. Axes and Machetes blunt quickly. I wouldn't trust a machete to cut an apple.
>Fending off animals
If you are walking through the woods and encounter a bear, what the fuck is a goddamned 'hatchet' going to do? Are you going to chop some wood and make a fire and sing songs with the bear? Don't make me laugh. Bears are instinctively frightened of Katanas. The Japanese Panda was wiped out because they routinely made the mistake of attacking the Samurai and quickly met their doom, and this lesson has spread fear into the hearts of bears worldwide. Even though the katana can easily cut a bear in half, you won't need to blunt your blade (which is impossible for a katana anyway)
>General utility
A katana isn't just a deadly weapon. It can be used for any number of things by the average explorer. I use my katana for everything from opening packets of sushi, to hunting fish (which mistake the glow of the katana's blade for the shining scales of a female fish), to starting fires (the katana can reflect the suns rays onto wood). No other weapon has this many uses. If you have a katana the only thing you need to carry is the sword and a compass (and advanced katana users know how to tell direction by looking at the angle of the handle)
The Katana is my weapon of choice when I am out exploring. It is perfect for any terrain.
