If you have a Bass Pro near you, might be able to find some of their Johnny Morris combos in that range, they give you a lot for the money and I think the CarbonLite combo is about that price. I have one of those rods and it feels like a Shimano or Abu rod for twice the price.
One of my go-to spinning combos is a Pflueger President LE (30) on an Abu Garcia Vendetta 6’6” M/Fast rod with 15lb Power Pro, and that’s right about your price range, a little less if you get a regular President reel.
Don’t get an Ugly Stik unless you have a kid who likes to break shit and you don’t care about feeling what’s on the end of the line.
Also when you go to put line on there, think about Power Pro. Braided line changed the game for me, you can run a smaller diameter line with more strength, so 15lb braid over 10lb mono will give you more strength, casting distance, line capacity on the reel, plus it doesn’t get all brittle and weak within a year like mono and doesn’t coil up like a slinky.
And don’t buy a telescopic rod, almost all of them are cheap shit. If you really need to break it down, get a 3pc or 4pc travel rod.
