I was taking pictures of a rat snake in a small tree, while tanding on the edge of a wooded area with a lot of leaf litter. After a few minutes I started to hear what sounded like faint crackle/fizzle sounds of a fire. I looked down and noticed I was being swarmed by ants - the sound was thousands of little legs racing across the leaves under me.
They weren't fire ants thankfully, and I wasn't bit or stung (i had jeans on, a had a few biting at my socks underneath but most stayed outside) - I managed to dance around and brush the swarm off of me before getting bit or stung.
Sneaky bastards.
