>>455372You can put lots of things in the compost pile. Look up a list. I put in things like chicken poop and soiled straw, soiled chinchilla litter, dead leaves, fruit rinds, egg shells, lots of coffee grinds, weeds, plant clippings, local soil (helps the chemistry of the pile and introduces beneficial organisms), tea bags, old veggies that the chickens won't eat, etc.
It's really easy to do and not time consuming at all. It'll definitely help your soil so you can grow more things other than wheat. Try it out. Since you're in Florida the pile should even heat up faster and not be stunted by snow. If it gets too dry, make sure you water it though.
Also forgot to add, you can try adding worms to it. Since it has access to the ground it should accumulate worms anyway, but finding a few worms around the yard and adding them can't hurt. They really speed up the process.
Good luck!
