I caught my first fish on a fly rod today! It felt great. I waded in an urban creek near my house and caught 9 fish in total: 1 green sunfish, 6 bluegill, and 2 largemouth. My leader was messed up because of bad casts I made over the weekend. I noticed it, but I didn't change the leader, and as a result, I lost a fly and a fish. It was a good fly too, pic rel. I have another one, so all hope was not lost. I fished that white wooly bugger, a smaller black one with no mylar, and an egg. The egg sucked to fish and probably needed split shot.
The bad thing today was that I saw a dead cat within throwing distance from a bridge. This was right next to an animal hospital. I think that the animal hospital improperly disposed of this cat because the owner of a cat would not throw their cat (probably dead) off a bridge after visiting the vet. Maybe, there is a world where they couldn't afford treatment and decided to kill and throw away said cat, but that's fucked up too. The animal hospital had really smelly dumpsters. The whole situation brought a bitter tinge to my otherwise sweet day.
I think I need to rebuild the midsection of my leader pretty soon. It's 5X leader, and I have 5X and 4X tippet. The leader is 9 ft and from Scientific Anglers. I get the idea of tippet; that makes sense to me, but I don't know where to start with rebuilding the midsection. I'd appreciate a video tutorial and/or written guide.
