Once the first batch are done producing I'm going to try getting a third batch going, though I don't tend to get much from a mid-season planting. I'll start that batch in trays like I did for the first two, so maybe that will help over my previous attempt at direct sowing in late July.
I used more restraint when putting down carrot seed this year and ended up with a more reasonable density. I covered the rows with a drop cloth which is pretty much the only way to get a decent germination rate in our soil that dries out in the top inch very fast. I really need to water along the back more often, the heat from the fence dries the soil there quickly stunting the growth.
Cucumber plants are getting big enough to guide them onto the trellis.
Whatever insects that were eating the lettuce / chard seem to have moved on. The additional lettuce seed I laid down is growing unmolested.
