If you can scout the area, you need to identify cover, water and food resources. Sign you'll find right now may not reflect where bears will be come fall. Reading about bear behavior will help you know what to look for. Look for stands of oak, hickory, and walnut. Crops like corn and basedbeans close to cover and water will be hit hard by any bears that can get to them. Bears will be active most of the day in the fall. Try to find out what time of year they den up in your area.
You can use satellite imagery to help with scouting. Things like power line cuts are used by all kinds of game to get around. If you can get imagery from fall months on Google Earth, you might be able to use leaf colors to identify groups of certain tree species.
