Mountains in Utah get more annual precipitation than 99% of the eastern US. And there is 140k sq mi of forest in the four corner states at the same biomass density as the southeastern US, and a similar number if not MORE native tree species than even the southeast US. Psychedelic mushrooms and diverse mycology don't just grow in the PNW, they also grow in places like AZ, NM and N Mexico. I have actually traveled the east, and it IS a shithole outside of a tiny handful of places geographically, and most of it is a shithole worse than the inland west bureaucratically. Whereas in the west I can drive my truck 200 miles through forests and see 2-3 people tops, and drive through 8,000 ft of elevation through no less than 6 biomes in a couple hours, all in the same state.
