The oilfield will destroy any ability you have to be either off rigsite or out of contact. The pay is great, but you're pretty much getting that pay to compensate for not having a life; I haven't had any chunk of time off longer that 3 days in 4 year. I've been in the fields for ~8 years now and I'm desperately looking for a way out and a job that will pay me at least something close to what I make now.
