I would also highly recommend The American Boy's Handy Book also by Dan Beard. It's divided into seasons and has so much /out/doors knowledge and projects it's insane. Fishing, traps, bushcraft, shelters, outdoor hobbies, forts and games, kites (even the hunting variety), how to make bows and arrows, fish/frog spears, how to skin animals and tan leather, slingshots, arrow slings, sleds, making snowshoes, lanterns and candles, soap, even how how to train and rear animals - including falconry.
Really great for kids and adolescents too, but with plenty that's relevant to adults. What a guy.
