>>2341955I did it once, during a 1 hour fight with a 15lb or so fish, I'm thinking a catfish. It was dusk, and I was using ultralight gear with 4lb test line for panfish, when the bobber bolted like that first attack in Jaws. I tried tightened the drag to the limit of the line, but couldn't turn the fish. I eventually cranked through the pulling, and the fish would turn come in a bit, then run again. I wanted nothing more than to gather as much line as I could before the fish broke me off, towing a hundred feet of line and eventually getting hung up or tangled, so I fought it as close as I could, and was close to landing it in the shallows when the line gave out, snapped at the jig eye, and became a tangled maelstrom of monofilament in the blink of an eye. I only left a small jig and no line in the fish, but I hate leaving hardware in a fish. That's pretty much the ultimate failure, aside from killing a fish you don't intend to keep.
